Focus on MUW - 2023
On October 27, representatives of more than ten Polish universities met in the WUM building to share their experiences with measures undertaken by schools to accomplish sustainability and social responsibility targets. The Minister of Funds and Regional Policy and the Rector of WUM became the main patrons of the event.
"The World's Longest Marathon" is a charity run of support and gratitude to the heroes who are bringing the victory of Ukraine closer. The run is held in many places around the world, including in Warsaw. On Sunday, October 29, on the premises of the J. Kusociński High School No. 59 in Warsaw, in tribute to Ukrainian defenders, doctors, rescuers, volunteers, the runners included, among others, Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong, Rector of MUW, Prof. Robert Galązkowski, Head of the Emergency Department MUW, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Director of the Polish Medical Air Rescue, as well as Mikołaj Granowski, Secretary of the Ukrainian Embassy in Poland.
October 25 marked World Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Day. Therefore, a meeting dedicated to this severe birth defect was held at MUW. It was attended by experts, health care professionals and, above all, parents of children with spina bifida.
The 7th International Conference on Interventional Pain Management and Neuromodulation combined with workshops was held on October 20 and 21. The event was organized by WUM departments: the 1st Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care and the Department of Forensic Medicine. The conference was an opportunity to exchange experiences and deepen knowledge in the field of intensively developing interventional and neuromodulatory minimally invasive methods of pain treatment.
The author of "Innovative method of applying relaxation splints in headaches" is Prof. Jolanta Kostrzewa-Janicka, Head of the Department of Dental Prosthodontics. The aim of the study is to analyze the effectiveness of the treatment of migraines and tension headaches when stabilizing bite splints are additionally implemented. Funding of more than PLN 330,000 from the Ministry of Education and Science was awarded under the Science for Society II program.
Prof. Jadwiga Turło, Head of the Chair and Department of Drug Technology and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology MUW, has been elected to the Scientific Excellence Council for the term of 2024-2027. The Council operates under the Law of July 20, 2018 - Law on Higher Education and Science. It takes care of the development of scientific staff in accordance with the highest standards of quality of scientific activity required for obtaining scientific degrees, degrees in the arts and the title of professor.
As every year in October, the Student Scientific Society MUW invited students to participate in the Scientific Clubs Fair. This is an inspiration for those who are looking for their scientific path. Several hundred students took advantage of the opportunity to talk to representatives of various scientific clubs operating at our university.
Prof. Dominika Nowis, Prof. Roman Smolarczyk, Prof. Marcin Grabowski, Prof. Artur Ludwin and Dariusz Kawecki, MD, PhD, are the new composition of the Program Council of the MUW Foundation. The acts of appointment to the council members were handed over by the foundation's founder, Rector Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong, on Friday, October 20, 2023.
The Minister of Health has granted us accreditation to conduct studies in the fields of nursing and midwifery at the Faculty of Health Sciences. In the case of both fields of study, the accreditation covers the first and second cycle studies and has been granted for 5 years.
We have received a positive evaluation regarding the educational process of the field of medicine of the Faculty of Medicine MUW. It was granted by the University Committee for Quality of Education in the Field of Medicine of KRAUM. The recommendation is valid until June 22, 2028, subject to our faculty's participation in the annual follow-up evaluation.
