Lifestyle medicine was the subject of the MEN Academy lecture

MEN Academy is a series of lectures organized by the Ministry of Education for students who want to broaden their horizons but are also thinking about choosing their future career path. The speakers are scientists and experts in various fields. The fifth lecture was organized with the Ministry of Health and our university. It was led by Daniel Sliż, MD, PhD, of the 3rd Department of Internal Diseases and Cardiology MUW, who talked about how our habits and daily choices affect the quality and length of life.

- More than treating patients with drugs, I like to treat patients with their behavior - explained Daniel Sliż, MD, PhD, as he began a lecture entitled ”Science vs. health care. How to live a healthy life and why it is worth to study medicine.”

And he added that lifestyle medicine is precisely concerned with making behavioral changes that will help prevent diseases, reverse its effects and promote healing.

Presenting the results of a number of scientific studies, he spoke about the role of physical activity, interpersonal relationships, avoidance of stimulants, sleep hygiene or healthy eating. He argued that prevention and prophylaxis are the best ways to prolong life and improve its quality.

- If we don't know how to take care of our health, can't choose the right food, can't do the right physical activity, the other facts are of marginal importance. The important thing is that we know how to take care of ourselves, because then we can also help others - stressed Daniel Sliż, MD, PhD.

The lecture took place on January 30, 2025, and can be viewed at the link. We strongly encourage you to watch it!
