Bacterial nucleases and bacteriophages – are they the key to shaping the bacterial flora?

“Currently, there is no doubt that the composition of the bacterial flora significantly affects health and the risk of developing numerous diseases. The research project I manage concerns the impact of substances of natural origin on bacterial phages and nucleases as a potential mechanism for shaping the intestinal microflora. Considering the growing resistance of microorganisms to antibiotics, we hope that the project results will draw attention to the forgotten phage therapy and plant products as useful tools for regulating intestinal microflora, for instance, after antibiotic therapy” – wrote prof. Monika Czerwińska, Head of the Chair and Department of Biochemistry and Pharmacogenomics.
