Our student among the winners of the INTERSTUDENT 2025 competition

Michail Koutentakis, a sixth-year English Division medical student, received a special award for special achievements and commitment. Over the last six years, he has distinguished himself in science, leadership and research, contributing to the development of more than twenty organizations as well as making a significant impact on global health and medical education.

The purpose of the Interstudent competition is to identify foreign “university leaders” who are active in their academic environment, inspire action with their attitude and contribute to the activation of the local environment. The prerequisite for participation in the competition is activity in the local student community - cultural, social, environmental, sports, multicultural activities - and good academic performance. Michail meets all of them.

This academic year, Michail is serving as Social Media Coordinator for the English Division Student Government, he was its Vice President in the 2023/2024 academic year, and even before that, the Secretary. He has been involved in organising, among other things, Orientation Week for newly admitted international students and the Diveristy x WUM Diversity Festival. He has also served at AMSA WUM as Student Activities Coordinator, Education Coordinator, and Life & Leadership Coordinator, among others. Michail is also involved in helping those interested in residency in the USA. He spearheaded the Global Surgical Education Leadership (GSEL) aimed at surgical students and physicians. In addition to being active in local government structures, he boasts many other achievements. He has been awarded the Rector’s Scholarship for Academic Excellence at the Medical University of Warsaw for the 2024-2025 academic year, he is the author of five chapters in medical and surgical books, and his work includes cardiology, surgery and translational medicine. Michail actively participates in numerous conferences worldwide. He has been recognized with various awards for poster and oral presentations.

It is worth getting involved

- I am truly honored to have received this award. Studying abroad is a journey filled with challenges, but also incredible opportunities to grow, connect, and make an impact – said Michail . And he added: - This recognition means a lot, not just to me, but to all international students who contribute to academia and student life in Poland. I hope it encourages others to take initiative, get involved, and make the most of their time here. More than anything, this award is a reminder that hard work, passion, and a willingness to step outside your comfort zone can lead to amazing opportunities.

At the award ceremony, held in Gdańsk, our student was accompanied by: Prof. Michał Grąt, Vice Rector for International Relations, Development and Promotion, and Jacek Sieńko, MD, Ph, Vice Dean for English Division Student Affairs of the Faculty of Medicine.
