- We have been able to finish a certain functional and organizational part of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery. Otorhinolaryngology cannot operate fully without a good outpatient clinic. This space currently meets standards that will no longer make us blush when we serve our patients - Professor Kazimierz Niemczyk said during the opening ceremony. He also emphasized that the project was made possible thanks to the work of many people, who have contributed their energy, strength, and knowledge to support the various stages of its implementation.
The benefits for patients were also highlighted by Ms. Marzena Kowalczyk, Deputy Head for Economic Affairs at the UCC MUW:
- So far, as a department we have had great human capital at our disposal. Those specialists have served others with their knowledge and expertise, which attracted patients like a magnet. Now we also have excellent infrastructure.
The facilities were renovated and furnished as part of a project titled “Adaptation of MUW outpatient rooms to R&D interdisciplinary studies”. As a result, modern R&D facilities have become available for conducting interdisciplinary research projects. As highlighted by project authors in its description, conducting research that involves interdisciplinary cooperation between medicine and other fields of science is only possible nowadays when supported by advanced infrastructure. The modern outpatient facilities will allow for developing, collecting, and sharing research and clinical data. As such, not only do they bring direct benefits for patients, but they also enhance innovation and allow for conducting research together with more international partners.
Total project value amounted to PLN 10,165,600, of which PLN 9,765,600 was contributed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The remaining amounts were provided by the University and the hospital.
- I am very happy to see initiatives that bring together the MUW and teaching hospitals - said Professor Rafał Krenke, Rector of the MUW. - There is a great need for them. Together with the University Clinical Center, we currently strive to pursue a certain joint policy, one that involves mutual support. This project, too, required support from the University.
The Rector expressed his congratulations and emphasized how happy he was that such an excellent environment would now benefit so many: patients during treatment, doctors at work, and students on their learning journey.
The ceremonial ribbon was cut by Rector Rafał Krenke, Ms. Marzena Kowalczyk, Professor Kazimierz Niemczyk, and Professor Urszula Demkow, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Health.
