AI in medicine is an extremely up-to-date and hot topic, which is why Prof. Rafal Krenke, Rector of MUW, could not miss the conference.
- I deal with artificial intelligence as a clinician, and I see how dynamically it is developing... When it comes to data security, because, after all, this is the data that AI feeds on, it is extremely important. That's why I'm glad that such a conference is taking place, and the conclusions will be very important for us - the Rector said.
Mirosław Wróblewski, President of the Office of Personal Data Protection, was a guest at the conference. He stressed that data protection issues in health care are obvious. The General Data Protection Regulation (RODO) has been in force in Europe for 7 years now, and is fully applicable to medical data.
- Unfortunately, the state of observance of personal data protection in Polish medical entities is certainly not satisfactory, the president said, so it is necessary to ensure high legal standards for this protection.
Opportunities and risks
Artificial intelligence is undoubtedly an important support for physicians - in the course of performing procedures, clinical examinations, in diagnostics and during conducting statistical studies. Andrzej Cacko, MD, PhD, from the Department of Medical Informatics and Telemedicine MUW, spoke about the opportunities and associated risks.
Legal aspects
Other experts focused on legal aspects related to AI. Monika Krasińska, Director of the Department of Jurisprudence and Legislation of the Office for the Personal Data Protection (UODO), referred to the new EU regulations on artificial intelligence.
- These acts mandate a new look at certain areas related to, among other things, the processing of sensitive personal data - the speaker said.
Meanwhile, att. Maciej Gawroński and Dr. Damian Flisak, both from the Faculty of Law and Administration UW, presented legal issues related to the use of AI-based programs in medicine.
The conference was opened by Marcin Wójcik, Data Protection Officer MUW, moderated by Krzysztof Jastrzębski, Deputy IODO MUW, and organized by our university's Security Office.
