Order of St. Sylvester for Prof. Marek Krawczyk

Pope Francis has honored Prof. Marek Krawczyk, Rector of MUW from 2008-2012 and 2012-2016, with the Church's highest honor for laypeople - the Order of St. Sylvester.

The order was presented by Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz. The ceremony, which took place at the Warsaw Archbishops' House, was attended by family, friends and colleagues of Prof. Marek Krawczyk.

Prof. Michał Grąt, Head of the Department of General, Transplant and Liver Surgery UCC MUW, noted in his laudation:

-Without a doubt, it can be said that Prof. Krawczyk has set and laid the groundwork for future generations of Polish doctors and scientists.

The Order of St. Sylvester (Ordo Sancti Silvestri Papae) was established in 1841 by Pope Gregory XVI. This order is awarded to laypeople, including non-Catholics, for “active service in the apostolates, outstanding merit in professional work or achievements in various fields of science and art.” The Order of St. Sylvester is one of five orders awarded by the popes.
