Student Scientific Club “Herbarium” was awarded in the Student Science Movement’s “Med” category (ex aequo with Student Scientific Club “Cancer Cell Biology” from the Medical University of Wrocław). “Herbarium” also competed with 23 other teams for the main prize, “Project of the Year” 2024, and has won!
About the winning project of Student Scientific Club “Herbarium”
The project examines the effect of standardized plant extracts, traditionally used in the treatment of intimate disorders, such as oak bark or marigold flower, on the epithelial barrier of the lower part of the female reproductive system, as well as on microorganisms that characterize the optimal microbiota or the state of vaginal dysbiosis. It is financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education as part of the “Student scientific clubs create innovations” program.
The project manager is doctor Weronika Skowrońska, supervisor of “Herbarium”. The main researcher is third-year pharmacy student Mikołaj Janowski who represented the Club in the finals and delivered the winning presentation, which was not an easy task, because he had to do it on stage during the finale within up to 8 minutes and 20 seconds. The presentations were assessed by a 14-member jury. The jury took into account primarily the original idea for the project, its professional implementation and scientific value.

The Student Science Movement’s competition is divided into 10 categories: Project of the Year 2024; Tech 2024; Science 2024; Med 2024; Human 2024; Art 2024; Conference of the Year 2024; Science Club of the Year 2024; Debut of the Year 2024; Scientific Supervisor of the Year 2024.
The competition is organized by an independent non-governmental organization, the “Student Aid Fund” Foundation. The honorary patronage over the final of the competition, which took place on November 23, was held by the Minister of Science.
