The changing labor market requires universities to take a new approach to education. The “Universities of the Future” project, which aims to prepare universities to meet new challenges, has just begun. The project is being carried out at 12 Polish universities, and the Medical University of Warsaw is one of them.

Due to funding from the European Funds for Social Development (FERS), over the next three years 360 undergraduate students will be able to receive scholarships and take part in a new education model focused on practical skills acquisition and independent project implementation. This will allow for better development of 4C competencies (communication, cooperation, critical thinking and creativity) and the acquisition of knowledge through practice. MUW is the only medical university participating in the project. At our university, the program will be implemented at the Faculty of Health Sciences.

A workshop on the implementation of the “Universities of the Future” project was held as part of the International Congress on Quality of Education, which took place in Katowice on October 23-25, 2024. The MUW team was represented by: Filip Raciborski, MD, PhD, Paulina Mularczyk-Tomczewska, DHSc, Anna Serzysko-Dąbrowska and Diana Rychlica. The purpose of the meeting was to exchange experience and prepare for the start of the project, with the first intake of students scheduled for the first half of 2025.

“Universities of the Future“ focuses on personalization, learning by doing and better cooperation of students and universities with the world of science and business. Qualified students will carry out their own original projects with the support of mentors - experts and practitioners from outside the university, as well as with the help of academic staff. Implementation of the projects will be rewarded with ECTS points, and participants can earn up to PLN 20,000 for the development of their ideas. This is a unique opportunity for students to gain key skills and practical experience that will strengthen their position in the labor market and successfully implement research, professional and business projects in the future.
