Varsoviada is organized by the Academic Sports Association Warsaw. About 1000 students take part in the event each year. For most of them, it is the first university student event. They compete in the following disciplines: basketball, volleyball, futsal, cross country running, swimming, indoor rower and table tennis. Students from 15 universities applied to this year’s contest. The finals took place on November 11 on the University of Physical Education site.
WUM student contestants
Representatives of our school appeared in two individual contests: table tennis and swimming. Daria Duralak and Wiktoria Szulc ranked second and third, respectively, in women’s table tennis. In men’s table tennis, Bartosz Frączek ranked fifth. Natalia Grudniak came fifth in 50m breaststroke swimming, time 47.98. Zofia Borys, time 29.48, came sixth in freestyle swimming, followed by Natalia Grudniak, time 34.86, who finished 20th.
Rectors’ Triathlon
Representatives of six universities took part in the Rectors’ Triathlon: prof. Zbigniew Gaciong, Rector of WUM Medical University of Warsaw; prof. Robert Zalewski, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs of the Warsaw University of Technology; Krzysztof Borkowski, PhD, Vice-Dean for National Security faculty at UTH Helena Chodkowska University of Technology and Economics in Warsaw; Robert Grey, Chancellor of the Warsaw University; prof. Jarosław Gołębiewski, Vice-Rector for Teaching at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW); prof. Bartosz Molik, Rector of AWF University of Physical Education; as well as Janusz Samel, director of the Office for Sports and Recreation of the capital city of Warsaw, who participated as a non-ranking athlete.
The representatives of academic bodies competed in: basketball throw, shot on goal, and laser shot. It was a lot of fun with a pinch of competition. The winner was prof. Robert Zalewski from the Warsaw University of Technology.
A traditional point of Varsoviada was the laying of a wreath at Marshal Józef Piłsudski monument. This academic sports celebration has been linked to the sponsorship of the University of Physical Education in Warsaw since 1989.
Varsoviada is co-funded by the capital city of Warsaw and the Ministry of Sports and Tourism. The partners of the competition are: the University of Physical Education in Warsaw, the Warsaw University, and the Military University of Technology in Warsaw.
