White coats put on!

The students, who are just beginning their studies in the English language medical as well as medical and dental fields of study, had the opportunity to take part in an unusual ceremony - the white coat ceremony. This is a confirmation of entering the world of medicine and joining the academic community. But also much more!

White coat means responsibility

Responsibility for patients, the university and their colleagues. This was emphasized by the vice deans of the departments where the fields of study are conducted.

-The white coat represents professionalism, care and trust, which we must earn from our patients. Because the white coat means that we are doctors and people trust us, and this is a great responsibility that we should keep in mind every day - said Prof. Ewa Czochrowska, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. And she added: - Please also remember that from today you represent our university and our profession, also in your private lives. You are our business card.

Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Jacek Sieńko, MD, PhD, referring to his professional experience, noted: -First of all, you are doctors, and this is associated with responsibility. Remember that this must become your lifestyle.

After short speeches came the moment of putting on the coats. This was assisted by the vice deans and Prof. Paweł Włodarski, former Vice Rector for International Relations, Development and Promotion. In this exciting moment, the students were accompanied by their senior colleagues and families.

The custom of putting on the coats originated in the United States and marks there the transition of a student from pre-clinical to clinical studies. At MUW, the ceremony takes place just before the start of the academic year, and that's because our students have been taking classes in the departments from their first year.

Medical studies - a path full of passion

And the dedication and relentless learning that will allow students to help those in need in the most fundamental ways. A path on which many challenges await, but also satisfaction. Emphasized Anna Kupczak, chairwoman of the Student Government MUW.

- You have accepted what is involved in medical studies, which requires us students not only to constantly acquire and deepen our knowledge, but also to have empathy, understanding and the ability to cooperate with others. It's a path that shapes us on many levels - Anna stressed.

During this journey, however, it is worth catching your breath, not giving in to stress and paying attention to yourself. This was the message Alexis Vourtsis, chairman of the English Division Student Government, addressed to his freshmen.

- Carpe diem, seize the day. Enjoy every day you spend at the university, you are in a new country, you have new opportunities. Take advantage of what today, tomorrow, the whole academic year will bring you, but slowly and calmly - Alexis stressed, adding: - Mental health is just as important as physical health, and it affects being a good student.

Orientation Week

Adaptation and integration meetings are especially important for foreign students. During the Orientation Week, which lasted from September 26 to 30, the new students of the English Division and English Dentistry Division received all the necessary information about their stay in the capital and at the university. There was no shortage of campus tours, question-and-answer sessions or presentations on two subjects considered the most difficult in the first year: anatomy and histology. They got information about various student clubs and scientific organizations. They learned about the services of the University's Psychological Counseling Center for students. The student integration activities were also an important part of the program, as nothing makes a stay in a foreign country, away from family, easier than supportive colleagues.

The official welcoming ceremony for first-year students, which took place on September 26, was attended by Prof. Rafal Krenke, Prof. Paweł Włodarski, Jacek Sieńko, MD, PhD,  and Ewa Czochrowska, MD, PhD.

The event was organized by members of the English Division Student Government, with the support of the staff from the dean’s offices of the Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.
