Authors of education videos on heart failure awarded

Three groups of our students, members of the Study Group at the First Cardiology Department and Clinic, UCK University Clinical Center, WUM Medical University of Warsaw, faced a serious competitive challenge. Goal: to make an approx. 3-minute video to illustrate the area of interest of the campaign entitled “Your Heart’s Voice”, an initiative to improve the health competence in the general population and to raise awareness of heart failure. Boehringer Ingelheim is the campaign partner; this April, they signed a letter of intent with WUM on the organization of this contest. The awards ceremony took place on Tuesday, September 26.

It is common knowledge that the prognoses for heart failure are bad; therefore, it is advisable to promote awareness of the risk of the disease. WUM and BI together launched the education project for the people of Poland, and the videos created by our students were included in “Your Heart’s Voice” campaign. One of them is already being shown in Warsaw and Poznań trams, another will premiere at the World’s Heart Day in Poznań.

Awarded students

A team of Jan Herc, Magda Warych and Aleksandra Skwarek won the competition with their video entitled “Ask the expert these questions”
A team of Patryk Pindlowski and Adrian Bednarek came second with the animated production entitled “Of the heart’s life”
A team of Anna Kochanowska, Paulina Krupa, Klaudia Mila ranked third with their video “Grandma and granddaughter”

The students received their awards from prof. Piotr Pruszczyk, Vice-Rector for Science and Technology Transfer, and representatives of Boehringer Ingelheim Sp. z o.o.: Michal Čuh, CEO, Sebastian Krystian Schubert, Health Policy Director, and Małgorzata Miklin, Communications Specialist. The students came with Paweł Balsam, PhD hab., from the First Cardiology Department and Clinic at UCK WUM, teacher of the Students’ Study Group at the Clinic.

Work evaluation

The videos were rated in the following categories: professional quality of information, creativity and communication, technical quality, emotional effect, artistic creation, message conveyance, visual communication.  The jury was composed of the following members: Agnieszka Wołczenko, chairperson of “EcoSerce” National Society of Patients and representative of “The Heart’s Voice” campaign; Aleksandra Tomaszek, PhD in Health Sciences, from the National Institute of Cardiology in Anin, heart failure educator; Małgorzata Miklin, representative of Boehringer Ingelheim Sp. z o.o., host of the competition and initiator of “The Heart’s Voice” campaign; Sebastian Schubert, representative of Boehringer Ingelheim Sp. z o.o., host of the competition and initiator of “The Heart’s Voice” campaign.
