Four researchers from MUW with funding from the National Science Center

Monika Czerwinska, MD, PhD, Head of the Chair and Department of Biochemistry and Pharmacogenomia, Prof. Joanna Kolmas and Ewa Olędzka, MD, PhD, from the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Biomaterials, received funding under the Opus 26 competition, while Dr. Ilona Cieślak from the Department of Education and Research in Health Sciences, received funding under the Miniatura 8 competition.

Opus 26 competition winners

The OPUS competition is open to researchers with at least one (published or accepted for publication) scientific paper in their oeuvre, without restriction due to research experience and regardless of their degree or title.

At the just concluded competition, 267 projects worth nearly PLN 441 million received funding. Among these projects are three by MUW researchers.

  • Monika Czerwinska, MD, PhD, is the head of the project entitled “Secondary metabolites of selected dietary components as factors preventing intestinal epithelial leakage and shaping intestinal microflora - do they affect bacteriophages and bacterial nucleases?”, which has received funding of PLN 2,147,920.
  • Prof. Joanna Kolmas is the head of the project entitled “New biomimetic 3D materials for potential applications in advanced therapies for bone tissue disorders - 3D BioBone,” which has received funding of PLN 1,406,996.
  • Ewa Olędzka, MD, PhD, is the head of the project entitled “Synthesis, characterization and evaluation of biological activity of innovative thermosensitive suppositories consisting of the carvedilol/biodegradable micro- and/or nanocarrier system for hypertension therapy,” which has received funding of PLN 1,838,160.

Winner of the Miniatura 8 competition

The purpose of the MINIATURA competition is to support scientific activities (such as preliminary or pilot research, queries, scientific internships, research and consulting trips) to prepare for a future research project that will take part in NCN or other national and international competitions. In the first round of the competition, funding of more than PLN 1.7 million was awarded to 40 scientists.

  • Dr. Ilona Cieślak received a grant of PLN 48,862 for preliminary/pilot research “Psychometric validation as well as linguistic and cultural adaptation to Polish conditions of standardized scales for measuring intercultural competence in a group of nursing students.”
