Diplomas of the Faculty of Health Sciences presented!

These were two memorable and grand ceremonies! Nearly 1,000 people who graduated in dietetics, nursing, midwifery, emergency medicine and public health in the 2022/2023 academic year received their diplomas. The authorities of the faculty and the university bid them farewell with pride, joy and emotion. Now our graduates, equipped with knowledge and skills at the highest level, can confidently begin the next stage of their lives.

The graduation ceremony was held on Thursday, July 27. At the first ceremony, 613 graduates of second degree in nursing and midwifery, first and second degree in paramedics and dietetics, as well as  first and second degree in public health, were honored. During the second ceremony, 317 graduates of first degree  in nursing and midwifery were symbolically capped. Both ceremonies were led by Prof. Mariusz Gujski, dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences. The graduates received their diplomas surrounded by their families and friends, as well as representatives of the faculty and university academic community as well as invited guests. The large auditorium of the Didactic Center MUW was filled literally to the last chair.

Tips for the future

During the ceremony, in addition to congratulations and good wishes, the graduates received some valuable tips for the future from the Rector of MUW Professor Zbigniew Gaciong and the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Professor Mariusz Gujski.

The Rector encouraged the graduates to always be true to themselves and make choices according to their own interests and not under the influence of others. He also urged them to continue and nurture friendships made in the course of their studies. He stressed that obtaining a diploma does not mean the end of education but it requires further training. - This is the great side of the medical profession, because a person can be better every day - Prof. Gaciong noted.

The Dean Prof. Mariusz Gujski spoke about cultivating two qualities in personal and professional life: kindness and respect. Kindness understood not only as being nice, but above all as a positive and open attitude towards the world. For this trait, combined with respect for oneself and for others, makes it possible to become a better person every day.

Taking an oath and putting on nursing caps

After the speeches, it was time for the most important point of the ceremony - the graduates' oath. Everyone unanimously repeated the words of the oath. Regardless of the nature of their studies, the graduates declared the fulfillment of the paramount goal for the medical profession - the protection of human health and life. They then received their graduation diplomas from the hands of the Rector and Dean. At the capping ceremony, the graduates also wore symbolic caps on their heads to signify their membership in the profession: with a black stripe - to the profession of a nurse, and with a red stripe - to the profession of a midwife.

Words of the graduates

The awarding of diplomas ended with spirited speeches by the protagonists of the ceremony.

- It is not easy to describe in a few sentences what each of us has experienced during the course of this adventure - said Mateusz Borecki, a graduating paramedic student. - However, I firmly believe that almost every person here can honestly say that the path on which I found myself gives him both happiness and fulfillment.

- Many difficulties will still be ahead of us, especially at the beginning of our careers - stressed Agnieszka Ruśniok, proudly putting on her nursing cap. - Therefore, let's not be afraid to ask, let's not stand still, let's develop. I wish each of you that nursing is for you what you want to do, not what you have to do - she added.

Zofia Rokicka, a midwifery graduate, recalled: - Our studies began originally. There was a pandemic going on at the time. For the first semester we saw each other and our lecturers only on computer screens. We listened in awe and disbelief to stories about the work of midwifery. At that time we had no clue what it would be like and whether we would succeed in the midwifery profession under such circumstances. Today I can say: we did it, we got it!

The Faculty of Health Sciences Student Government President Julia Krzemińska also spoke at both ceremonies. She congratulated her colleagues and encouraged them to expand their knowledge, work together for change and not give up on their dreams.
