The signatures on the agreement were affixed by Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong, Rector of MUW, and Prof. Piotr Wachowiak, PhD, Rector of SGH. The meeting was also attended by Prof. Dorota Niedziółka, PhD, Dean of the SGH Master's Degree Program, Prof. Barbara Więckowska, PhD, from the SGH Department of Social Insurance, and Prof. Mariusz Gujski, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, where, on the part of MUW, the new degree program will be launched.
Why the idea of creating new studies
- We have a very good tradition of cooperation with SGH, and we jointly run the Executive MBA in Health Care. Now we are adding pre-graduate education to the post-graduate level. There is a big gap here in preparing people for healthcare management - said Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong.
It would seem that any manager is capable of managing an organization, including in health care. Meanwhile, today the market requirements are higher.
- We need professionals, and professionals are managers who are also familiar with sectoral conditions - stressed Piotr Wachowiak, PhD, Prof. of SGH. He added that he was very happy to sign the agreement, because combining the competencies of MUW with those of SGH will allow to prepare professionals who will manage health care organizations.
How it will be organized
SGH will be responsible for the administrative side. As planned, the teaching unit will change after each of the four semesters. Alternating between SGH and MUW. This will give students the best lecturers in a particular field. Classes will be implemented in the modern formula of thematic blocks (typical for medical universities). And they will resemble more a series of thematic training courses than traditional teaching.
- We hope that the experience of MUW and SGH will make it possible to present such conditions of the didactic offer and such opportunities for the preparation of the diploma thesis that will have a unique value on the Polish market - said Dorota Niedziółka, PhD, Professor of SGH.
What will be included in the program
The program of the new course combines the scopes of management science, health sciences, economics, finance and legal sciences. Students will be equipped with knowledge of the mechanisms shaping the health care sector, as well as the soft skills necessary for managers operating in the industry. The program emphasizes the development of practical skills, which translates into a high proportion of seminars and exercises. Two tracks of study allow specialization in the systemic or organizational area.
Assumptions of the new field of study
It has been assumed that the new field of study will have 60 students per year (1 lecture group, 2 seminar groups, 4 exercise groups). Classes are planned to be divided into blocks and will be implemented 3 days a week (about 20 hours a week) - this will allow to combine studies with work and gain practical experience in parallel.
The new field of study will be launched in the summer semester of the 2023/2024 academic year.
