During the lecture, Dr Kucharska mentioned various aspects of infectious disease monitoring in light of new legal regulations, using tools developed for the purposes of SARS-CoV-2 infection control.
Lecture by expert
The speaker discussed the practical aspects of the implemented systems, which help improve the quality of epidemiological supervision while at the same time reducing the burden on practicing physicians and minimizing the needs for transmission of paper records. This goal will be accomplished through integration of the SEPIS system, developed for the purposes of the State Sanitary Inspection, with the gabinet.gov.pl system, and through implementation of applications supporting patient registration systems at hospitals.
As a consequence, it will be possible to quickly and effectively collect suspected and/or actual infection data in the population, and responsible sanitary and epidemiological personnel will be able to respond immediately. This will give a higher level of safety for patients at clinics and hospitals, and ultimately for all of us.
Voices in the debate
Professor Zbigniew Gaciong, Rector of WUM, took part in the debate by emphasizing the need for effective monitoring of infections for the safety of patient treatment at healthcare facilities. Anna Jagielska, MD-PhD, epidemiologist at WUM Central University Hospital, pointed out the needs associated with monitoring hospital infections and alarm pathogens. Prof. Aneta Nitsch-Osuch emphasized the importance of reporting infectious diseases as part of safety assurance for patients, their families and the entire population.
The lecture was delivered upon the invitation of prof. Aneta Nitsch-Osuch, head of the Population Medicine and Public Health Institute at WUM, who emphasized the cyclical character of the yearly student meetings with epidemiology and public health experts in Poland, organized since 2016. Last year, the main speaker was Łukasz Jankowski, Chair of the Polish Chamber of Physicians and Dentists, who spoke about the “no-fault” regime.
