Founder of the American Paley Institute visited MUW

On April 12, 2018, MUW authorities and faculty met with Dr. Dror Paley, MD, FRCSC, a world-renowned expert in limb lengthening and reconstruction, and founder and director of the Paley Institute in West Palm Beach, Florida, and Dr. David Feldman, director of the Spine Deformity Center and Hip Pain Center at the Paley Institute.

Prof. Krzysztof J. Filipiak, Deputy Rector for Internationalization, Promotion and Development hosted our distinguished guests in MUW’s Rectorate.  He was joined by Prof. Jarosław Deszczyński, Prof. Paweł Małdyk, Jarosław Michał Deszczyński, PhD., Tomasz Albrewczyński, PhD., Michał Cegiełkowski, Coordinator of the Internationalization, Promotion and Development Division, and Lidia Przepióra-Dziewulska, Head of the International Cooperation Department.

Other guests included Bernadetta Soja, International Patient Coordinator at the Paley Institute; Dr. Andrzej Czop, Head of the Department of Trauma and Orthopedic Surgery at Warsaw’s Children's Hospital on Niekłańska street; and representatives of Kochaj Życie Foundation: President Małgorzata Nowotnik and Vice President Anna Rajewska.

Dr. Dror Paley gave a lecture entitled "My Contributions to the Ilizarov Revolution" and Dr. David Feldman addressed the issue "Arthrogryposis in 2018. What is known and expectations" to a large audience in MUW’s lecture hall.

Also, during their visit, some seventy patients of MUW’s Pediatric Hospital were able to have consultations with Dr. Paley and Dr. Feldman.

The purpose of Dr. Paley’s visit was to explore the possibility of scientific cooperation and creating a European Paley Institute at MUW. The institute would provide the most technologically advanced methods to treat patients with musculoskeletal system defects, including limb reconstruction, protection of joints and restoring their function in order to avoid amputation.
