On May 10, 2018, Prof. Marek Kuch, Dean of the 2nd Faculty of Medicine had the pleasure of welcoming an old colleague and fellow cardiologist at the Medical University of Warsaw. Prof. Jeffrey Michel is a cardiologist affiliated with the Scott and White Memorial Hospital in Austin, Texas and a clinical assistant professor of Medicine at the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine (COM) where he also serves as Vice Dean for International Education. Prof. Michel obtained his MD and residency training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He completed his fellowship in Cardiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital at Harvard Medical School.
Accompanying Prof. Michel was his wife Dr. Andrea Michel, a radiologist in Austin, Texas affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area. This was their first visit to Poland. In his capacity as Vice Dean for International Education, Prof. Michel met with Prof. Kuch and the Rector, Prof. Mirosław Wielgoś with the hopes of establishing a collaboration with our University.
Following a tour of the Banacha campus, Prof. Bożena Werner, Vice Dean of the English Division and Head of the Department of Pediatric Cardiology and General Pediatrics received Prof. Michel at the University’s Pediatric Hospital. Prof. Werner took the pleasure in showing the Hospital’s modern facilities and discussing some particular medical cases, as well as, her team’s recent successes in pediatric cardiosurgery.
Next, Prof. Michel was invited to give a talk to students from the 2nd Faculty of Medicine and English Division. Prof. Michel presented research on “Diagnostic and Management of Acute Myocardial Infarction” The discussion on the subject was continued the next day during the 14th Warsaw International Medical Congress (WIMC) where Prof. Michel spoke about "Biomarkers in the Diagnosis of Acute Myocardial Infarction” during the Cardiology & Cardiosurgery, Plenary Session.
