Dr. Norbert Rhelis, President of the “Help from Poland" Foundation and doctor of infectious diseases from Poland who lives permanently in Papua New Guinea and works in the National Department of Health of Papua New Guinea explains that "the people of the Esa'Ala Province face poverty and deprivation. They lack access to running water and electricity and virtually have no medical care.” In response to these needs, MUW’s first medical team who will travel to Papua New Guinea will deliver medical assistance in the Esa'Al District in the Solomon Sea. They will conduct general medical examinations of newborns and children, as well as ophthalmological (eye) examinations for the entire Esa'Ala District which has a population of about 60,000. The MUW medical team members include Prof. Bożena Kociszewska-Najman, the project's manager, Dr. Piotr Maciejewicz, Assistant from the Department of Ophthalmology, and two MUW students in their final year of medical studies: Karol Taradaj and Tomasz Ginda.
Students Karol Taradaj and Tomasz Ginda will be organizing a nationwide collection of used eyeglasses. Donate your old eyeglasses to someone who needs them in Esa'Ala, Papua New Guinea! Follow us on FB for details about the collection of used eyeglasses.
