Fight the Fakes was established in 2013. It currently has 40 partners including organizations representing healthcare, patients, wholesalers and other actors in the pharmaceutical industry. The campaign gives a voice to those who have been personally impacted and shares the stories of those working to put a stop to this threat to public health. FTF aims at raising awareness on a global scale about the dangers of fake medicines.
At the Medical University of Warsaw, it is the Faculty of Pharmacy that has taken the lead in the fight against pharmaceutical crime. A group of specialists was created in 2016 dedicated to the issue of counterfeit medicines. Subsequently, in 2019, the Department of Forensic Pharmacology was established. The Department is headed by Prof. Zbigniew Fijałek, who is an expert in the field of forensic drug testing. Its mission is to teach forensic pharmacology and cooperate with law enforcement authorities by conducting forensic drug testing for the police and prosecutor's office on counterfeit and illegal products, as well as, reporting on their health hazards. The Faculty of Pharmacy also cooperates with the Police Academy in Piła, the Polish National Police Office criminal services.
Having become a partner of Fight The Fakes, Medical University of Warsaw assumes a leadership role in raising public awareness and combatting the production of counterfeit medicines. This campaign is especially important in the time of the COVID-19 pandemic because dubious remedies are being spread. Therefore, every voice matters and MUW is proud to have joined the movement to fight fake medicines around the world.
