The aim of the competition, organized since 2013, is to promote active students and their initiatives, and to emphasize the merits of people and entities friendly to students and supportive for the potential of young people.
"Dethroning action - let's take the crown off the virus" - coordinated by the MUW Students' Self-Government, was aimed at supporting the employees of Warsaw health care institutions as part of the voluntary work, and at helping the sanitary and epidemiological services during the coronavirus pandemic.
In the period of less than 3 months, in cooperation with 25 companies and 40 private persons, support has been provided to 35 medical institutions located in Warsaw as well as in the Mazovia region. The volunteers carried out a number of tasks helping medical services in terms of training in the use of personal protective equipment, food dispensing, keeping medical records, temperature measuring at the entrances to the units, supporting doctors at ER, operating of the COVID-19 hotline or sewing masks. In addition, the MUW Students’ Self-Government itself provided for the distribution of donations in the form of: personal protective equipment for hospitals and laboratories or numerous gifts from sponsors such as juices, preserves and fruit preserves.
The action was a response to the heavy burden on staff in medical institutions due to the new epidemiological conditions and sanitary requirements. The volunteers provided help in areas where hospital staff were previously directed to in order to enable medical staff to focus on other areas related to the pandemic.
