The building, which had its grand opening on February 22, 1936, was the fruit of the initiative of the then students, who were involved in its construction by selling bricks, seeking donors, organizing a traveling theater, and doing physical labor on the construction site. The modernistic building at 7 Oczki Street, designed by Stanisław Odyniec-Dobrowolski, was for years the seat of one of the most famous Polish students clubs, which in its glory years attracted the greatest performers.
Among others, Krzysztof Komeda, Ewa Demarczyk, Jacek Kleyff, Zbigniew Holdys or Kuba Sienkiewicz connected their artistic lives with the "Medyk". Foreign artists have also performed at the Club, in 1964 Marlene Dietrich was a guest.
The Medyk was also a "witness" to important political and social events, such as those that took place in March 1968, when meetings and rallies were held in its premises.
