“Treatment of the acute phase of stroke with the use of high fidelity simulation room”

On March 13 this year, for the first time in Poland, a course entitled "Treatment of the acute phase of stroke with the use of high fidelity simulation room" was held at the Medical Simulation Center of the Medical University of Warsaw.

The course was held under the scientific patronage of the Department of Neurology UCC MUW headed by Prof. Anna Kostera-Pruszczyk, MD, PhD. The goal of the course is to improve the collaboration among the diverse actors in the patient experience chain and to define existing barriers. This will optimize the management of the acute phase of ischemic stroke and will lead to the implementation of causal treatment as soon as possible after hospital admission.
The participants of the course were physicians from various stroke centers in Poland, involved in the treatment of acute cerebral ischemic stroke. The scenario was facilitated by the staff of the MUW Medical Simulation Center, who played the role of the patients. The scenarios took place in the hospital emergency department. The participants' task, based on history and imaging findings, was to make a correct diagnosis and initiate treatment of acute stroke.

This was the first course in a planned series. Aleksandra Golenia, MD,PhD,  and Antoni Ferens, MD, PhD,  were the scientific directors of the course. The course was organized by the Center for Medical Simulation and Innovation of the MUW and the Boehringer Ingelheim company.
