First total hip replacement in Mazovia

On March 17, the team from the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation MUW performed the first implantation of the S&N Redapt Cup total hip replacement in Mazovia with augments in the 3D Staple and Slice projection and a Polarstem hip stem.

Owing to this prosthetic implant, a patient with a large acetabulum defect, disruption of the joint center of rotation, and a severe shortening of a limb in the course of osteoarthritis, was able to successfully undergo a  surgery without the need for a time- and cost-consuming "custom-made" prosthesis, which would have kept the patient waiting longer for a successful treatment. The patient was twice disqualified from surgery in other hospitals in Poland.

The procedure was performed by a team composed of Paweł Obidziński, MD, PhD, Bartosz Maciąg, MD, Jakub Szymczak, MD, operating-theater attendants were Ewa Beer and Katarzyna Walasek, and the anesthesia was performed by Maciej Puciato, MD, PhD.
