This year's second edition was moved entirely to the internet due to the pandemic. The event was inaugurated by the meeting entitled "Opening - The Opposite of Loneliness". The participants listened to a special message from the Rector of MUW, Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong, addressed to the organizers and the students. The rector noted that the coronavirus pandemic revealed the need for specialized psychological support for young people. That is why it is such a valuable initiative to organize a conference addressing the issue of mental well-being. No less important is the participation of MUW students in the organizing committee, because it shows that they think about their colleagues struggling with mental health problems. ”Mental well-being doesn't just mean the absence of illness, it is also about enjoying and being satisfied with life, having a sense of meaning. Do we know how to build it and, what is most important, take care of it? After all, once acquired, it does not have to accompany us for life," said the Rector Professor Zbigniew Gaciong.
The meeting was led by Maggie Lorkowska, the president of the Psychological Student Club PSYCHE and the coordinator of the Mental Health Awareness Days. Along with Dr. Magdalena Łazarewicz, the coordinator of the MUW University Counseling Services, the meeting participants were introduced to the topic of this year's edition of the Days, and also the definition of the "opposites of loneliness" was discussed. Next, the students Olivia Gudziewski and Sonali Sharma presented the Mental Health Awareness Days program.
Nearly 20 events will be organized until Sunday in order to raise awareness about mental health among students and the problems surfacing during the current coronavirus pandemic. The organizers also placed great emphasis on how to solve difficult situations and how we can help our friend to overcome problems and maintain mental well-being.
Mental Health Awareness Days will last until April 25. For details, visit the event's Facebook page: MUW Mental Health Awerness Days 2021.
