Medical student became a Fulbright Scholar

Arkadiusz Kołodziej, a fifth year student of medicine, is among the winners of the BioLAB Program organized by the Polish-U.S. Fulbright Commission.

Our student will complete a one-year internship at the University of Virginia, a renowned research center in the USA, where he will join Professor Zhiyi Zuo's team in the Department of Anesthesiology. This team addresses issues related to central nervous system aging, neuroprotection, and behavioral neuroscience. Arkadiusz Kolodziej will be involved in a project to determine the role of the gut microbiome in brain aging; he will also study the mechanisms of action of anesthetics on cognitive functions.

It is worth mentioning that Arkadiusz Kolodziej successfully pursues his scientific interests in other fields as well. Our student- cosmology enthusiast, along with the Innspace team of which he is a member, won fourth place in the international Moon Base Design Contest. The group's project is a base on the moon made using 3D printing technology. He was also responsible for the substantive design of the hospital on the Moon - "Alldream Lunar Institute" in the "Home on the Moon" educational competition organized by the Aldrin Family Foundation in the USA.

A young researcher involved in the popularization of knowledge about space is a member of the Student Council of the President of the Polish Space Agency. Furthermore, together with his colleague Ignacy Górecki - also a medical student, he took a training course at the European Space Agency on human physiology in space. Both students are also members of the Polish Astrobiology Society.
