- I would like to congratulate Professor Anna Koster-Pruszczyk and the whole team on the idea of celebrating the department's anniversary by organizing a scientific event. There is no better way to pay tribute to all those who have created the department over the centuries than to take care of its further continuous clinical, scientific, didactic and organizational development - said Professor Zbigniew Gaciong, rector of MUW.
The Department of Neurology UCC MUW is among the European leaders in the area of neuromuscular diseases. It is the only Polish member of the elite European Reference Network for Rare Neuromuscular Diseases ERN EURO-NMD. Its employees are actively involved in activities leading to the implementation of innovative therapies in our country, the development of systemic solutions allowing for the treatment of patients with rare diseases at a global level. For example, the treatment of patients with spinal muscular atrophy, or the efforts to include spinal muscular atrophy in the screening program in Poland. The demyelinating diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, intensive therapy of diseases of the nervous system are a very important area of expertise of the department.
In recognition of its great contribution to the clinical research and teaching development of Polish and world neurology as well as building the brand of the Medical University of Warsaw in Poland and abroad, the Rector of the MUW has awarded the Dr Tytus Chałubiński Medal to the Department of Neurology of the Medical University of Warsaw.
