This year for the first time the diploma awarding ceremony of the largest faculty of our University took place at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel in Wawer.
- You are an exceptional year - emphasized Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong - because you are the first group of graduates graduating from the two merged faculties. The uniqueness comes from one more fact - you graduated during the pandemic. Our entire academic community passed this difficult exam with flying colors. The medical curriculum has been fully implemented. You receive a valuable degree from the best medical university in Poland. We have educated physicians who meet all the requirements to work in a profession that was, is, and always will be needed.
Professor Rafał Krenke, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, also spoke about the value of education, the role of science and medical knowledge, and the uniqueness of the career path on which the graduates are now embarking. - Be aware that despite graduating, there are many things you still don't know. Strike a balance between confidence, prudence, and self-criticism. See the profession not as learned, but as a mission and vocation. Helping the sick and your own education - these are the main areas of your professional life for the coming years.
The graduates took the medical oath during the ceremony, then the rector and dean presented diplomas with distinction and awards to 39 graduates with the highest average. The medal - Golden Laurel for the best graduate of the medical program and a diploma with distinction for an average grade of 4.84 - was awarded to Mikołaj Maciej Sus. He also received a prize funded by TU INTER Polska S.A., which was handed over by Katarzyna Ładno, Director of TU INTER Polska S.A. in Warsaw. Then, the Rector and the Dean of the Faculty personally presented diplomas to more than 500 graduates who came to the ceremony. In addition, the representatives of the European Medical Students' Association EMSA Warsaw presented awards to the outstanding students. They were given to: Joanna Gromadzka and Anna Jedlak-Sabak. Whereas, the MUW Student Self-Government honored: Mateusz Dankowski, Kacper Gajos, Kamila Zacharska and Katarzyna Zabłocka.
- Your presence at the university is a great value, because thanks to you we are changing the university, we are modernizing it, we are inspired by your enthusiasm, we are beginning to see it as you see it. You bring a different perspective," said the Dean Rafał Krenke about the students and already alumni. Nicholas Sus, speaking on behalf of the alumni, quoted Albert Einstein: - We are the architects of our own destiny. Therefore, let us continue to work with courage and humility.
Whereas a representative of the professional self-government, Tomasz Imiel, was happy to welcome the graduates among the doctors. - In the speeches there was a note of sadness that you are graduating, but I am glad that you are leaving the university, because I can welcome you into the medical council," he admitted. - I remember what one of the teaching assistants told my group at the university: you have chosen the most unusual profession in the world. You will accompany the birth of a person, the suffering but also the joy of recovery. You will also accompany - often as the only ones - those who are dying. He pointed out that MUW graduates begin their work at a difficult time, when a huge amount of responsibility is placed on the shoulders of physicians to pull an inefficient system. - You must maintain empathy for patients. Therefore, take care of yourselves and do not work beyond your strength. You are the ones who can and will change this system.
At the end of the ceremony, Dean Rafał Krenke invited the audience to an artistic part performed by a string quartet consisting of: Idalia Dąbrowska - viola, Monika Mycroft – violin, Małgorzata Jakubowska – violin, Dominika Kazimierska – cello.
