The Conference of Rectors of University Medical Schools

On November 24-26, 2021, rectors of University Medical Schools KRAUM debated on the issues related to medical education as well as issues concerning academic communities of public medical schools. Professor Zbigniew Gaciong, Rector of our University, took part in the deliberations.

During the meeting the rectors adopted resolutions on granting the University of Rzeszow and its Medical College and the University of Zielona Góra and its Medical College the status of ordinary members of KRAUM. The rectors also discussed the medical community's opposition to the proposal to abolish postgraduate internships. Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong referred to the changes in the system of education and financing resulting from the abolition of internship. Also on the agenda was the need for World Federation for Medical Education accreditation. An important point was the draft resolution on the demand for the implementation of legal guarantees of an adequate standard of education in medical studies by providing financial and institutional solutions regarding the appropriate clinical base to carry out the tasks of pre- and postgraduate training in medical professions.
Rector of MUW - Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong also discussed this year's recruitment for medical universities, including problems related to the recruitment process and the risk of not meeting the limits. The professor also presented the issues regarding funding for personal protective equipment for students.
Finally, KRAUM addressed the possibility of developing a common anti-mobbing procedure for its member universities.

In addition, KRAUM members met with representatives from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education at the Medical Research Agency headquarters. They also heard speeches on the Biomedicine Development Plan of the Congress for the Humanization of Medicine, and were briefed on ABM's plans for 2020. All issues were then discussed among the rectors of the medical schools.

The Conference of Rectors of University Medical Schools is a voluntary association of Polish academic schools providing medical education. KRAUM was established in 1989.
