Thanks to the obtained grant, our researcher will spend 10 months at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the USA. She will work with Prof. Judith Simcox, head of the Advanced Lipidomics and Metabolomics Facility housed in the Mass Spectrometry Core Facility in the Biotechnology Center.
The goal of Dr. Michorowska's project is to identify lipid markers of metabolic disease in a population of African-American women for whom typical markers such as triglycerides, LDL, HDL are not good predictive markers of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. This is because of ethnic differences.
