- The Ronald McDonald Family Rooms at the Children's Clinical Hospital UCC MUW are places where patients can forget about treatment, pain and tears, at least for a while, and spend time together with their parents having fun. This is all the more important because, as research shows, the healing process is faster and more effective when the family is close to the sick child - says Agata Ciesielska from the Ronald McDonald Foundation, which operates at the hospital.
As Dr. Monika Wanke-Rytt, Vice Head of Treatment at UCC MUW, Department of Pediatrics with Observation Unit, said during the conference "For the family to be together - the role of family proximity during a child's stay in the hospital," the importance of a parent's presence in the reality of the hospital cannot be overestimated. Touch has an anti-stress effect, making the hospitalized child calmer. Studies show that under the influence of a parent's affectionate touch and closeness, growth hormones and endorphins - chemicals that offset stress levels - are released in the baby's brain. A calmer child is easily treated, and an easier-treated child goes home faster.
Rooms for families at the Children's Clinical Hospital UCC MUW have been in operation since 2015.
