Surgeons trained in laparoscopic suturing techniques

After a hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, within the walls of our university for the eighth time, the surgical doctors took part in lectures and exercises to improve their skills in laparoscopic suturing. The specialists from the Chair and Department of General, Gastrointestinal and Oncologic Surgery UCC MUW provided the training. The special guest at the event was Prof. Thomas Carus, a renowned European surgeon and authority on minimally invasive surgery.

The program of the 8th edition of the Scientific and Training Conference on Laparoscopic Surgery included knot tying in laparoscopy and the performance of digestive anastomoses, both in the stapler technique - using "staplers" and manual suturing. The doctors practiced on specially prepared animal tissues using laparoscopic training simulator and staplers.

The training was opened by Prof. Maciej Słodkowski, who performed in a dual role as organizer and head of the Department of General, Gastrointestinal and Oncologic Surgery UCC MUW, as well as director of the Center for Postgraduate Education MUW. The scientific and organizational director of the event was Dr. Tomasz Guzel, assistant professor of the department, while the chief instructor was Prof. Thomas Carus, head of the Department of General, Visceral and Vascular Surgery, Niels-Stensen Kliniken, Elizabeth-Hospital Thuine, Germany. The German edition of the course has been organized by Prof. Carus for many years in Monchengladbach, Bremen, Hannover, Hamburg, Berlin, as well as in other foreign centers for advanced laparoscopic techniques.

The organizers would like the Warsaw edition of the event to contribute to the professional development of Polish surgeons in minimally invasive surgery techniques. The Center for Postgraduate Education MUW awarded educational credits for participation in the training in accordance with the recommendations on postgraduate education of physicians.
