Tuesday, September 27, was an important day for more than 160 young scientists. They received diplomas conferring doctoral and postdoctoral degrees, confirming their achievements in medical, pharmaceutical and health sciences. It was also an important day for our university - an expression of MUW's reputation as a dynamic and innovative research center.
The event was hosted by Prof. Piotr Pruszczyk, Vice Rector for Science and Technology Transfer.
- You are deservedly entering the elite group of the scientific community not only of our university, but also of the whole Poland. I am happy to be able to accompany you today - said the Vice Rector opening the ceremony.
In a letter addressed to the graduates, congratulations were also offered by Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong – the Rector, who was absent from the ceremony due to an important trip abroad. - I am extremely happy that the ranks of our scientific staff are enriching and strengthening in such large numbers. I am convinced of the great contribution of your work to the scientific achievements of our university both now and in the future - wrote the Rector.
First, from the hands of Prof. Piotr Pruszczyk and the chairmen of the discipline councils, diplomas were received by postdoctoral students: 22 in medical sciences, 4 in pharmaceutical sciences and 9 in health sciences.
The Vice Rector then read the contents of the solemn doctoral oath. Among other things, the newly-appointed pledged to support the university and develop themselves academically, conducting research for the general good, and not for material gain. After the words of the oath, the Vice Rector presented diplomas to 94 doctors of medical sciences, 8 of pharmaceutical sciences and 24 of health sciences.
There was also time for speeches by the protagonists of the ceremony. Dr. Klaudiusz Nadolny emphasized: - Undoubtedly, we are strengthening the power and potential of science in Poland, and this should be remembered. [...] Today is the time to celebrate, and from tomorrow to work hard and strenuously.
Dr. Anna Piwowarczyk thanked the authorities of the MUW for creating the conditions and opportunities to realize her interests and research ambitions, the promoters for their support and commitment, and her relatives for their understanding and acceptance. Quoting Prof. Michal Heller: "A scientist should never give up in the face of new questions," she expressed the hope that the degrees received today will be a motivator to achieve further goals in the scientific field.
Finally, Prof. Piotr Pruszczyk addressed words of appreciation to the Scientific Discipline Councils: - Without the great activity of the teams of the Discipline Councils, there would not have been the tremendous success we have witnessed today.
There are currently more than 600 doctoral proceedings and 20 postdoctoral proceedings underway at MUW. Our university is a very good place for conducting scientific research. In total, MUW scientists are carrying out 290 projects with a budget of PLN 633 million. Our main partners are prestigious institutions Medical Research Agency, National Science Center, National Center for Research and Development, National Agency for Academic Exchange, European Commission, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Science. The scientific activity of the university's staff has contributed to MUW's good results in the evaluation of scientific disciplines conducted by the Ministry of Education and Science. In medical sciences, it is rated A, while in pharmaceutical sciences and health sciences it is B+.
