Matriculation is certainly a special ceremony, and the oath itself symbolically confirms a student's status. At the Faculty of Pharmacy, it is also an excellent opportunity to get to know the newly admitted to the fields of pharmacy and medical analytics. Therefore, already after the oath ceremony, Joanna Kolmas, MD, PhD, asked the students present to stand up and accept congratulations and wishes for prosperity. At first, the young people did so timidly and at the end - with enthusiasm.
- I congratulate you for choosing a university like MUW, congratulate you on your choice of faculty and congratulate you on your choice of the field of study [...] May this academic year be a year of many good, valuable experiences and successes - the dean said in her inaugural speech. She also argued that in moments of doubt and feeling that nothing more can be done, students should remind themselves of the Dalai Lama's words "If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping in the presence of a mosquito."
The dean pointed out the great responsibility of the profession of pharmacist and laboratory diagnostician, and the fact that they require continuous education and improvement of skills. However, knowledge alone is not enough, one must be able to apply it, so Joanna Kolmas, MD, PhD, encouraged the newly admitted to use their study time to seek, inquire, experience and explore all the scientific problems they will encounter. Students have modern laboratories and well-equipped libraries at their disposal, but also mentoring programs, a number of symposia, and Erasmus+ trips. The dean also assured of the support of academic teachers: - We are here for you to gain the knowledge and experience you need to spread your wings in adult life.
Professor Zbigniew Gaciong, Rector of MUW, also wished the students joy and success. - Studying is the most important part of your resume [...] You have made a very good choice - said Professor Gaciong. And he pointed out some of the faculty's strengths: tradition in teaching medicine, outstanding teaching staff, the quality of scientific output, modern research projects and a wide range of offers aimed at students - scientific clubs, mini grants, student organizations.
On behalf of senior colleagues, Marcin Jaworski, chairman of the Pharmaceutical Faculty Student Government, welcomed the newly admitted students. - From the bottom of our hearts, we wish you that your stay within the walls of our university will allow you to gain a lot of experience, theoretical and practical knowledge, thanks to which you will find your dream job and create the next new generation of Polish medics.
The dean then invited Dr. Monika Franczak-Rogowska from the Department of Physical Chemistry to deliver an inaugural lecture entitled "Pharmacy in a 'NANO' World." - Listen to with what energy and volubility you can talk about science - said the dean, giving the floor to the speaker. Dr. Franczak-Rogowska began by presenting the audience with a profile of Richard Feynman, an American theoretical physicist, recognized in 1999 as one of the ten most outstanding physicists of all time. It was he who, with his bold, though at the time - underestimated statement that science poses incredible, unlimited possibilities for humans if they create structures atom by atom, started the era of nanotechnology around the world. Today we already know that he was 100% right. The speaker then invited matriculation participants into the world of nanometers: nanotubes, nano-needles, nanoparticles, nanobombs, etc., which are the foundations of modern medicine. - Paraphrasing the words of R. Feynman, it is not an art to know more or less about a subject, the art is to explore and experience that subject. Remember that there are no stupid questions [...] I wish you to ask a lot of questions and to find your own world in these studies, and that one day we will be immensely proud of all of you - concluded Dr. Franczak-Rogowska.
The ceremony culminated with a concert by the Choir of the Medical University of Warsaw, and ended with a performance of the "Gaudeamus Igitur" song.
The event was attended by: Prof. Mariusz Gujski, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Dr. Marta Kijak-Bloch, Chancellor of MUW, Jolanta Ilków, Bursar of MUW, Prof. Grzegorz Nałęcz-Jawecki, Chairman of the Pharmaceutical Sciences Discipline Council, Vice Deans of the Faculty of Pharmacy - Agnieszka Bazylko, MD, PhD, and Piotr Luliński, MD, PhD, as well as members of the Council of the Faculty of Pharmacy and academic teachers.
In 4 years, the Faculty of Pharmacy will celebrate a beautiful anniversary - 100 years of teaching. It is currently thriving, adapting to new market needs and increasing the quality of education to make it easier for graduates to access their dream jobs. This is confirmed not only by statistics, but also by the voices of those involved. Graduates can find work, among others, in laboratories - clinical hospital laboratories and in open medicine, scientific laboratories, companies conducting clinical research, inspection and measurement units, pharmaceutical industry, public and hospital pharmacies, pharmaceutical inspection and other state and local government offices or institutions operating in the field of pharmacy, health care, food control and research as well as environmental protection.
