On the 9th of December 2022 in Stefan Batory high school auditorium in the presence of over one hundred students Professor Marta Struga from Department of Biochemistry with the lecture called “What you should know about healthy nutrition, diets and losing weight” inaugurated a cycle with participation of specialists from our University. They will be talking about their everyday job in clinics and scientific units. They will present different medical disciplines and suggest how you may become a scientist. Everything to convince the young people, that studying medicine is a viable choice. And the MUW is a viable choice.
Professor Struga’s lecture was very well received by the high school students. The Professor spoke about how the medicine understands the term “healthy nutrition” and what should we pay attention to reading the labels of food products. The students asked many questions. For example what does she think about exercising when fasting. Proffessor Struga did not advise that, saying, that for people under 18 such activity may cause collapse. And what with drinking coffee? Good coffee once a day - very much so. We should avoid instant coffee because it is full of chemical compounds. Some questions concerned the popular keto diet. Professor Struga advised caution. She emphasized, that following it for too long can negatively affect the work of the kidneys and liver.
Students of Klementyna Hoffmanowa IX High School, Władysław IV High School No. VIII and Stefan Batory II High School with Bilingual Divisions participated in the lecture. Another meeting with specialist is planned on 20th January with lecture given by Wojciech Kukwa PhD. from Otorhinolaryngology Department of MUW.
But that is not all we have prepared for talented high school students on the occasion of the inauguration of the Program! We also had our first lesson in the anatomic theatre and the “pins” prepared specifically for this occasion. We invited students from the Biological-Medical Research Club from Władysław IV High School to the MUW Museum of the History of Medicine. Students watched the multimedia show presenting 6 human anatomic systems and exhibits connected with regular and pathological anatomy and forensic medicine. At the end Kinga Dziobak from Ars Medica tested their knowledge of human body with the famed “pins”. There was also time for the conversation about studies at the MUW. Students asked many detailed questions.
