The training was held on January 13-14 and took the form of practical workshops. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, the trainees improved their competence in diagnosis and management of emergency situations. The same as they could encounter while on duty in a neonatology department.
The program was developed based on the best available standards and using innovative materials and simulations. So as to maximize the use of time for both the acquisition of theoretical knowledge, training of individual skills and teamwork. Protocols for the differentiation, diagnosis and treatment of life-threatening conditions based on current Polish and world guidelines, in accordance with EBM and using ultrasound were discussed. Participants trained on specially prepared phantoms for decompression of pneumothorax, tamponade, puncture of pleural fluid, peritoneal cavity. They also independently practiced ultrasound protocols on an ultrasound simulator, while in high-fidelity rooms they recreated more than a dozen scenarios of clinical situations using neonatal medical simulators, ultrasound diagnostics and other equipment.
The scientific director of the course is Dr. Joanna Puskarz-Gąsowska - a neonatologist with extensive experience in intensive care, assistant professor at the Neonatology Intensive Care Department MUW. The presenters were: Renata Bokiniec, MD, PhD, Dr. Joanna Seliga-Siwecka, Dr. Ariel Płotko, and Dr. Agnieszka Kijanka. The training took place at the Medical Simulation Center MUW, located at the Central Clinical Hospital UCC MUW at 1a Banacha Street.
