Admission is open and no registration is required. Prof Schmelzle will talk about the role of surgery in treating patients in the 21st century and the challenges facing the speciality.

This is another lecture with a foreign scientist organised by the WUM Doctoral School as part of the STER Internationalisation of Doctoral Schools programme of the National Academic Exchange Agency.

Prof. Schmelzle is Head of the Department of General, Visceral and Transplant Surgery at one of the largest centres for liver surgery and transplantation in Germany - Medical School Hannover. He was previously deputy chief of the Department of Surgery at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin. He specialises in cancer surgery and transplant surgery of abdominal organs.
