In the overall world ranking, MUW has also moved up in the research category by 17 places: from position 873 to 856. As for our place in Europe, we are ranked 349th.
This year's ranking took into account more than 20,000 universities from around the world. On the podium of the ranking were again three American universities: Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University. Among Polish universities, the highest positions were taken by Jagiellonian University (75.6 points), University of Warsaw (75.3 points) and St. Staszic University of Science and Technology (73.3 points).
The ranking has been published by The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) since 2012. The methodology is based on seven indicators grouped into four areas:
- Quality of education, measured by the number of university’s alumni who have won prestigious academic distinctions relative to the university’s size (25%)
- Alumni employment, measured by the number of a university's alumni who have held top positions at major companies relative to the university's size (25%)
- Academic quality, measured by the number of academics who have won academic distinctions (10%)
- Research:
- Research Output: measured by the total number of research papers (10%)
- High-Quality Publications: measured by the number of research papers appearing in top-tier journals (10%)
- Number of research papers appearing in highly-influential journals (10%)
- citations of scientific papers (10%)
