Meetings with young people in Chicago

The meetings were held as part of the Polonia Meetings educational fair, which were organized by the National Agency for Academic Exchange. They were attended by 12 Polish universities, among them the Medical University of Warsaw. Our representatives, Prof. Paweł Włodarski, Vice Rector for International Relations, Development and Promotion, and Jacek Sieńko, MD, PhD, Vice Dean for Student Affairs at the English Division of the Faculty of Medicine, convinced why it is worth studying medical, pharmaceutical and health sciences with us.

The fair was held from February 2-5 in Chicago. It was co-organized by the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Chicago and partners: the Polish Teachers Association in America, the Polish Institute in New York, Copernicus Center, Fulbright Poland, Polonium Foundation.

Meetings with young people at Polonia Meetings fair

For many years, interest in studying at domestic universities has been growing among Poles living abroad. The fair of Polish universities was visited by about 300 people: young people and their parents, teachers and school principals, as well as representatives of Polish organizations.

The MUW stand was very popular. All questions about recruitment, study conditions, opportunities for scientific and non-scientific development, social activities were exhaustively answered by our representatives.

- We have excellent universities in Warsaw, but Polish youth from the United States do not know that they can study right here - stresses Prof. Paweł Włodarski. He adds: - They associate Europe primarily with tourism, few of them consider studying on our continent. Meanwhile, studying in Poland, especially at the Medical University of Warsaw, is a very good alternative. We provide high quality education under the guidance of experienced academic staff on much more favorable financial terms.

The lack of sufficient information about what Polish universities offer and how competitive they are is also pointed out by NAWA.

Dr. Joanna Jancz, Head of International Promotion of Higher Education and Science, NAWA, summarizes: - There is evident interest in the offer of NAWA programs and Polish universities by the Polish community living in Chicago. It should be emphasized that the system of recruitment to Polish universities, the rules of participation for Polonia, applying for scholarships, or the possibility of taking advantage of exchanges as part of studies, are not well enough known among parents, teachers and Polish youth, which requires intensification of our activities in this direction.

Meeting in the series  „Polish Science & International Mobility”

The fair also featured a meeting in the series "Polish Science & International Mobility". It brought together representatives of the Polish scientific community, Polish organizations, exchange scholarship recipients, American scientists from, among others, the University of Illinois Chicago, Northeastern Illinois University and the Illinois Institute of Technology. They discussed opportunities to support academic mobility and promote Polish science and universities.
