The visit to the department and laboratory took place on May 17 this year. During it, Vice Dean Olga Ciepiela, MD, PhD, who also serves as Head of the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Laboratory of the CCH UCC MUW, presented the current profile of the department's activities and plans for the future. There was also a joint discussion of student education in medical analytics and postgraduate training of laboratory diagnosticians, both at MUW and in non-public cooperating units.

The guests then had the opportunity to see what the new laboratory room at the hospital on Banacha Street looks like. It is the largest medical diagnostic laboratory operating for UCC MUW units and one of the largest clinical laboratories in Poland. It performs more than 2.5 million diagnostic tests annually for the patients. This gives a daily average of about 7,000 tests. More than 35% are performed on an urgent basis, and the average time to issue a result does not exceed 60 minutes. Of particular interest during the visit was the topic of POCT (point-of-care testing) and issues related to the implementation of laboratory supervision of its performance.
Present were: Prof. Marek Kuch, Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Education MUW, Piotr Luliński, MD, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof. Rafal Krenke, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Adam Przybyłkowski, MD, PhD, Director of Medical Affairs UCC MUW, Monika Pintal-Ślimak, President of the National Council of Laboratory Diagnosticians, together with members of the National Council, Edyta Podsiadły, MD, PhD, head of the Microbiology Department UCC MUW, Dr. Slawomir Białek coordinator of Postgraduate Education at the Faculty of Pharmacy, and representatives of Diagnostyka company headed by Prof. Jakub Swadźba, president of the company.
On the same day, the guests went to Diagnostyka laboratory at 100 Jutrzenki Street in Warsaw.
Conference at MUW
The finale of the celebration of the diagnostician’s day was the conference "Laboratory diagnostics of civilization diseases", which took place on May 27 in the Prof. Olszewski auditorium at the Faculty of Pharmacy on Banacha Street. The organizers were: the Faculty of Pharmacy MUW, the National Chamber of Laboratory Diagnosticians, the Polish Laboratory Diagnostics Society Warsaw Branch, the Center for Postgraduate Education MUW and the Student Laboratory Diagnostics Society MUW. The event was held under the patronage of HM Rector of MUW and the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy. The event was held as part of the 1st Mazovian Laboratory Diagnostician's Day.
The conference was chaired by Olga Ciepela, MD, PhD, and Dr. Sławomir Białek. During the conference experts from our university spoke. Dr. Agnieszka Pawełczyk from the Department of Immunopathology of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases spoke about parasitological diagnostics, while Maciej Przybylski, MD, PhD, from the Department of Medical Microbiology spoke about diagnostics of infections caused by herpesviruses. Other speakers included Olga Ciepiela, MD, PhD, who gave a lecture entitled "Can anything else surprise us? - case analysis from a clinical hospital" and Dr. Sławomir Bialek from the Department of Biochemistry and Pharmacogenomics and the Department of Allergology and Clinical Immunology with a talk entitled "From allergen soup to allergen molecule."
