“Basic challenges of surgery” lecture for MUW
The lecture will be held at 3:30 pm in Auditorium A of the MUW Teaching Center. Admission is open and no registration is required. Prof. Schmelzle will speak about the role of surgery in treating patients in the 21st century and the challenges facing the specialty.
This is another lecture with a foreign scientist organized by the MUW Doctoral School within the framework of the STER Internationalization of Doctoral Schools program of the National Academic Exchange Agency.
About the lecturer
Prof. Schmelzle is a head of the surgical clinic at one of the largest centers for liver surgery and transplantation in Germany - Medical School Hannover. He previously served as a deputy head of the surgical clinic at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin. He specializes in cancer surgery and transplant surgery of abdominal organs. He places special emphasis on the further development of laparoscopic and robotic surgical techniques for highly complex liver, pancreas, esophagus and stomach as well as rectal surgeries. He is committed to the individualization of treatment concepts and optimal preparation as well as care of patients during surgery.
He participates in the development of guidelines and is a reviewer for various journals, congresses and scientific self-governing organizations and foundations. He is a member of the European Surgical Association (ESA), the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (IHPBA) - European/African/Middle Eastern Regional Association (E-AHPBA), the International Liver Laparoscopic Society (ILLS) and the Transplantation Society (TTS), among others.
