Message to new medical students
- I would like you to experience today's ceremony in full consciousness - said Prof. Rafal Krenke, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, host of the ceremony held on October 6. - And to treat it not only as an addition to academic tradition. But also to listen to the words of the oath, so that they become the determinant of your attitude throughout your studies as well as after them.
The Dean advised newly admitted students that the goal of their studies should not only be to acquire a profession, but also to pursue passions, develop dreams, satisfy curiosity. So that satisfaction is not brought only by passing colloquia and exams, but by learning about phenomena and things that until now they either did not know or did not fully understand. - This is one of the most important attributes of acquiring knowledge in general, and knowledge at the university level in particular - the Dean said. He also pointed out the qualities that should characterize a doctor. - Faith and love tell us to stand by a sick person as long as there is hope. And this, not only can we not lack, but we should sustain and strengthen it in the sick person. Professor Krenke stressed that without these three qualities, medicine can be practiced, but it cannot be experienced fully.
Finally, he called for full commitment and a responsible approach to the educational process, which will not only allow us to properly care for patients, but also ensure their respect and trust.
After the speeches, the most important part of the ceremony - the oath - began. The oath was taken from medical students in Polish by Dr. Łukasz Koperski, Vice Dean for student affairs of the I and II year. And from the students of the medical field in English - Dr. Jacek Sieńko, Vice Dean for English Division Student Affairs. After the pledge, Prof. Dominika Nowis, Head of the Laboratory of Experimental Medicine, gave an inaugural lecture entitled "mRNA the future of medicine?".

Words from the Rector
All ceremonies were attended by Rector Professor Zbigniew Gaciong. - Studying is undoubtedly one of the most important moments, deciding what will happen to us throughout our lives - the Rector said during the ceremony of the Faculty of Medicine. And he stressed that MUW is the best medical university in Poland. This is confirmed by the places MUW holds in Polish and international rankings. It is also an excellent clinical base. MUW's position is the result of the work of a great many people, including students. - We will do our best to make sure that you not only graduate with a diploma, which still has great value, but that you are convinced that you got from us all that you should get and that we - as academic teachers - have accomplished our mission to the best of our ability.
During the ceremony of the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Rector also spoke about new opportunities in organizing activities for students, which will be made possible by the opening of the newly built Medical Simulation Center. Prof. Gaciong also praised the student community, recalling the successes that our students have achieved recently, including WorldSkills or medical simulation competitions. - You reach an excellent group of colleagues. Take advantage of this opportunity, for the reason that friendships made during your studies should last a lifetime.
Prof. Gaciong addressed the newly admitted students of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry: - You are embarking on a path that may lead to different places, but you are unlikely to part with the medical profession. And our task is to assist you in this journey. The Rector also encouraged students to study systematically. - The first year is the most difficult, you must not waste time. If a backlog arises in medical studies, it is very difficult to make up for it later, and sometimes it is even impossible. And he added: - It gets easier later on. You should always look ahead with optimism.
