The Foundation sends young pathomorphologists to the best specialized centers in Europe and the world for travel and training scholarships. This improves: the efficiency of diagnosing cancerous lesions at early stages as well as the scientific development of the pathomorphologists' community in Poland. Until December 2023, 8 scientists from the Department of Pathomorphology, currently headed by Prof. Agnieszka Perkowska - Ptasińska, and three Ukrainian citizens have left for scholarships. Two more scholarship trips for pathomorphologists from MUW are planned until April 2024.
Donation for scholarships
On December 4, 2023, Prof. Piotr Radziszewski, President of the Foundation, and Mieczysław Maciążek, Vice President of the Rotary Club Warsaw City , in the presence of Rector Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong, signed another annex to the donation agreement for the foundation in the amount of PLN 400,000 to fund travel and training scholarships, about PLN 25,000 each for a scholarship recipient.
The meeting was also attended by: Prof. Agnieszka Perkowska - Ptasińska, Head of the Department of Pathomorphology, members of the Board of the Foundation: Dr. Paweł Łęgosz and Marta Ewa Wojtach, as well as Lidia Przepióra-Dziewulska, Head of the International Relations Office. And from the side of the Rotary Club Warsaw City: Paweł Zacharski and Waldemar Giersz.
Service Above Self Rotary International
- Realizing the noble idea of Service Above Self Rotary International, today we signed another agreement enabling further implementation of the STOP Cancer Program, and thanks to this, more scholars from MUW and Ukraine will be able to learn about the latest reports in pathomorphology, but also with Rotarians from all over the world - said President Professor Piotr Radziszewski.
Plans to expand cooperation
Rector Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong expressed the hope that cooperation with the Rotary Club Warsaw City would not only be continued, but also expanded to other defined areas of medicine where support or joint projects would be particularly useful and valuable. After the words of the Rector, Mieczysław Maciążek declared that the Rotary Club Warsaw City, together with the MUW Foundation, could in the future implement scholarship programs for other medical specialties, especially since knowledge, as is evident from the accounts of previous scholarship recipients, is significantly expanded thanks to scholarships in the best medical centers in the world, and patients ultimately benefit from these activities.
Early detection of cancerous lesions is almost certain success in treatment. In the case of cancer, it determines its characteristics. Each pathomorphologist diagnoses about 2,000 specimens a year. A 5% improvement in efficiency is a chance for hundreds or even thousands of lives saved, prolonged and devoid of suffering. Pathological findings often mean the first step toward a patient's recovery.
