Like every year, the Rector, Dean authorities and representatives of WUM Medical University of Warsaw administration laid wreaths at a stone obelisk commemorating the 200th anniversary of teaching medicine in Warsaw.
It was exactly 214 years ago, on November 15, 1809, when medicine began to be taught in Warsaw on university level. The first Academic Medicine Faculty was established. Hiacynt Dziarkowski became the Dean and Stanisław Staszic was the President.
This is commemorated by a monument on the Banacha Campus site. Below it, there is a memorial plaque with a message to the WUM academic community about teaching and training academic youth, helping all the sick and in need, and an anniversary motto on service “To the People and the Fatherland”.
