Prof. Bolesław Samoliński emphasized that people obtaining a scientific degree take responsibility for the state of Polish science because they commit to educating the next generation of researchers. He pointed out that the meaning of academic education lies in the conduct of education by those who participate in the creation of knowledge. He also noted that, when conducting research, care should be taken not only to remain in the mainstream of scientific and technical progress. Equally important is to participate in the debate and to educate the public.
In the academic year 2020/2021, the Council of the Discipline of health sciences awarded one person the degree of habilitated doctor and twenty six persons the doctoral degree in the field of medical and health sciences.
- For you, this ceremony is a culmination of the process that began many years ago. Some of you started your scientific work as students of the basic studies, others at doctoral studies, said Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong, the Rector of the WMU, who participated in the ceremony.
The Rector pointed out that success in scientific research depends on many factors: - Your success is not only your personal achievement. You owe it also to the support of your families and the help from your colleagues because learning is a team discipline. Without a well-functioning team, success is not possible.
The Rector said that the award of the diplomas to the new doctors and habilitated doctors was a celebration for the entire WMU, which is why, in the future, similar events will take on the character of a university-wide festivity.
The current Council of the Discipline of health sciences is Chaired by Prof. Bolesław Samoliński and Dr. Dorota Włodarczyk is the Vice-Chair. The basic tasks of the Councils of Scientific Disciplines and the responsibility resulting from the creation of the university’s scientific development strategy and its research potential were highlighted by Prof. Piotr Pruszczyk, the Vice-Rector for Science and Technology Transfer.
Currently, 153 people conduct doctoral studies in the discipline of health science under the old regime and 6 people under the new system. There are also 8 habilitations underway.
In the academic year 2019/2020, when the ceremony was cancelled due to epidemic reasons, 13 people obtained the degree of habilitated doctor and 20 people the degree of doctor in the field of medical and health sciences.
