MUW and UW scientists awarded in the competition for joint research projects

Six projects by MUW and UW scientists will receive funding in the 2nd edition of the competition carried out under the "Excellence Initiative - Research University" program, action VI.1: "Strengthening and development of cooperation between the University of Warsaw and the Medical University of Warsaw in the federalization process." The support, granted to joint research teams, is aimed at increasing the impact of research results on global science and gaining experience concerning forms of cooperation between both universities.

Awarded teams:

  1. Prof. Dariusz Bartosik (UW) and Ksenia Szymanek-Majchrzak, MD, PhD (MUW), title of the project: Genomic analyses of multiresistant Enterobacter strains isolated from clinical specimens, with a focus on the mobilome component as a determinant of antibiotic resistance.
  2. Prof. Krzysztof Woźniak (UW) and  prof. Andrzej Kutner, MD, PhD, (MUW), title of the project: Development of structures of novel vitamin D analogs as potential drugs to improve the efficacy of standard therapy for ovarian cancer.
  3. Marek Michalewicz, PhD (UW) and prof. Urszula Anna Demkow (MUW), title of the project: Evaluation of the impact of the B.1.1.7 variant of SARS-CoV-2 virus on the epidemiology and clinical presentation of COVID-19 among children.
  4. Justyna Olko, PhD (UW), Jarosław Biliński, MD, PhD (MUW), title of the project: Linguistic and cultural diversity in the service of medicine - exploring traditional ethnic minority communities as potential super contributors of the gut microbiota.
  5. Maciej Mazur, PhD (UW), Gabriela Olędzka, PhD (MUW), title of the project: Identification of oligosaccharides isolated from human milk with high antimicrobial activity.
  6. Aleksandra Bala, PhD (UW), Tomasz Dziedzic, MD, PhD (MUW), title of the project: Examining the pattern of structural and functional changes in relation to cognitive functioning in patients with drug-resistant temporal lobe epilepsy - an interdisciplinary analysis.
