The first transcatheter implantation in a degenerated mitotic valve Epic 31mm (TMVI, transcatheter mitral valve-in-valve implantation) in Poland was performed on September 3 by a team of surgeons from Medical University of Warsaw’s 1st Chair and Department of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery Clinic.
A team of surgeons from Medical University of Warsaw Department and Clinic of General, Transplant and Liver Surgery at the Independent Public Central Clinical Hospital (SPCSK, on 1a Banacha St.) and from the Department of Cardiac Surgery and Transplantology at the Institute of Cardiology in Anin performed the first simultaneous heart-liver transplantation in Poland. The procedure took place on August 30-31, 2018 on a 51-year old patient.
On August 30, 2018, the Medical University of Warsaw (WUM) and Montreal Medical International Inc. (MMI) signed an agreement which made MMI a shareholder in the WUM Investment Sp. z o.o. company. The signatories were the Rector of the Medical University of Warsaw Prof. Mirosław Wielgoś and President and CEO of MMI Dr. Michael Churchill-Smith.
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Magdalena Winiarska from the Department of Immunology, Medical University of Warsaw, member of the STREAM project, has been awarded ERC Starting Grant. It will be the first ERC grant carried out at the Medical University of Warsaw.
In an atmosphere of smiles, cheering and humming to "We Are The Champions", students of the 6-year program and Advanced MD program officially completed their medical studies at the 2nd Faculty of Medicine English Division of the Medical university of Warsaw. The graduation ceremony took place on July 4, 2018. The host of the graduation ceremony was Prof. Marek Kuch, Dean of the 2nd Faculty of Medicine.
Juliusz Kosewski, a fifth year student from the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, won the “Anatomic and chromatic restoration of natural tooth following five dimensions of color. Jules Allemand 2017/2018 Trophy.” The final stage of the championship took place on June 25 and 26 at D’Annunzio University of Chieti-Pescara (Italy). This is the Medical University of Warsaw’s fifth Jules Allemand Trophy.
On June 27, Prof. Eric Van Cutsem, a world-renowned gastroenterologist oncologist from Belgium was awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from the Medical University of Warsaw. The ceremony took place at the Royal Castle in Warsaw and was hosted by the Dean of the Second Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Marek Kuch who cordially welcomed the honorary guest and his family.
On June 26, Prof. Ewa Kuligowska, an internationally renowned expert in radiology and pioneer in the development of ultrasound techniques and procedures, was awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from the Medical University of Warsaw – her Alma Mater (1970).
On June 19, MBA programs in Healthcare Management Rankings were announced and SGH-WUM MBA program was top ranked while WUM’s Faculty of Health Sciences placed second.
