Nearly 8 million Poles smoke cigarettes. In this regard, we do not emerge well in comparison to other European countries. According to data from a recent Eurobarometer report, we still have one of the highest percentages of people who use tobacco (or related products). We also smoke relatively much, with an average of 16 cigarettes a day. And the World Health Organization recognizes smoking as the most serious health risk factor and the leading cause of premature mortality.

One in 10 babies is born prematurely, or before 37 weeks gestation. In Poland this amounts to about 26 thousand prematurely born children annually. Some of them are so tiny that they fit in the palm of your hand and weigh as much as a teddy bear. Fortunately, thanks to advances in neonatology, they can be saved.

Over 700 preventive examinations and educational talks with the young and the older adults were conducted by the students of the Medical University of Warsaw as part of the "Health under Control" action. The event took place last Saturday in Rondo Wiatraczna Shopping Mall. - In the current era of disinformation, it is extremely important to provide the public with access to reliable and evidence-based knowledge - says Katarzyna Giemza, LPO of the IFMSA-Poland Warsaw Branch, the organizer of the event.

In what direction should academic career offices evolve? How do you effectively promote them to students and alumni? What should collaboration with the socio-economic environment look like? These questions were jointly answered by the participants of Wednesday's meeting: Professor Arkadiusz Mężyk, KRASP President and the representatives of the KRASP’s Committee for Academic Career Services.

The Learning Center showcases extraordinary paintings. These are scans of histopathology slides from testicular cancer patients, among others. The exhibition accompanies the annual Movember campaign, which aims to raise awareness of male cancers.

- We hope that within a few years the results of our research will contribute to the development of new methods of immunotherapy, which will save thousands of lives all over the world - says Prof. Jakub Gołąb from the Department of Immunology at the Medical University of Warsaw.

- Congratulations to the dean's authorities for being able to host such a wonderful event under safe conditions during the upcoming fourth wave. Today, 604 of this year's graduates join the medical family - said Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong at the ceremony of the Promotion of Doctors of the Faculty of Medicine, which began with a traditional "Gaude Mater Polonia" hymn performed by the choir of the Medical University of Warsaw.

During the ceremonial gala of the Polish Medical Association, which was held at the Royal Castle, the "Gloria Medicinae" medals were awarded to the outstanding representatives of the Polish medical community. Among the honored were professors associated with the Medical University of Warsaw: Prof. Renata Górska, Prof. Longin Marianowski, Prof. Jacek Szmidt, Prof. Grzegorz Opolski and Prof. Alicja Wiercińska-Drapało.

On October 23, in the presence of top university officials as well as families and loved ones, the pledge was taken by the graduates who completed their studies in medical analytics and DUO OTM in Health Technology Assessment. The graduating students vowed, among other things, to "serve human life and health to the best of our knowledge, to prevent suffering, to prevent diseases and to participate in the healing process, to help people regardless of their race, religion, nationality, political views, or financial status with only their best interests in mind."

Mariusz Tomaniak, MD, PhD, from the 1st Chair and Department of Cardiology at UCC MUW received the prestigious Prime Minister's Award for scientific achievements and the best habilitation thesis in medical science. The MUW specialist was recognized for his significant contribution to the ongoing discussion on individualization of antiplatelet therapy in patients after percutaneous revascularization and the enormous practical value of his research.
