The European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) has issued a guideline with key recommendations for the management of the last weeks and days of life for the adult patients with advanced cancer - Clinical Practice Guideline: Care of the adult cancer patient at the end of life. This is a first-of-its-kind publication aimed at oncologists and palliative care professionals that focuses on patient comfort by addressing physical, psychosocial, and spiritual concerns. The group of multidisciplinary experts who drafted the document includes Tomasz Dzierżanowski, MD, PhD, from the Department of Social Medicine and Public Health at MUW.

The National Agency for Academic Exchange has announced the results of the call for proposals for the "STER Internationalization of Doctoral Schools" program. Co-financing will be provided to 16 entities running doctoral schools, including the Medical University of Warsaw. The money will be used, among other things, to increase the attractiveness of our doctoral studies for foreign candidates and to enable Polish and foreign doctoral students to gain international scientific experience.

Mariusz Tomaniak, MD, PhD, from the 1st Chair and Department of Cardiology of the UCC MUW has won the Association of Cardiovascular Interventions of the Polish Cardiac Society Award for the best original publication in invasive cardiology for 2020. The award-winning paper is titled „Impact of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and dyspnoea on clinical outcomes in ticagrelor treated patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention in the randomized GLOBAL LEADERS trial.”

A team of scientists from the 1st Chair and Department of Cardiology of the UCC MUW received the 2020 Scientific Award from the Polish Cardiac Society. Our specialists have been recognized for a series of papers entitled "Clinical characteristics, prognostic factors and treatment of Polish patients with heart failure," published in international journals. When evaluating the publications, the PCS Awards Committee took into account their level and scientific value.

In the newly published U-Multirank - a global ranking of universities, MUW was among the best Polish universities. Our university received as many as 10 "A" grades, which makes it the third Polish university with the highest number of "very good.”

Researchers from the Medical University of Warsaw took part in the Nobel Week - an event organized by the University's Center for Dialogue and Cooperation, during which prominent specialists comment on the Nobel Committee's decisions on an ongoing basis.

Specialists from the University Center for Women and Newborn Health of the Medical University of Warsaw performed another successful fetoscopic surgery of fetal spina bifida. In Poland, this defect occurs once in every 1000 births. The procedure requires extreme precision, and because of the diameter of the needle with which the stitching is done - slightly larger than a human hair, this method is called the keyhole method.

Joanna Niewińska, Piotr Nawrocki and Joanna Śmida won in 3 competitions organized within the 5th Congress of the Polish Society of Pharmacy Students which took place in Lublin. The evaluation of the competition works took into account the originality and innovation of the topic, the scope of research, the presentation, the ability to discuss and the aesthetics of the work, as well as taste.

The Polish Society of Health Economics has awarded prizes in the 6th round of the competition for the best doctoral, master’s, bachelor’s and diploma theses in the field of health care economics and management. Joanna Sobol, a student of the 2nd degree studies in the area of public health at the Faculty of Health Sciences of the WMU, has been awarded by the Competition Jury in the category of the best bachelor’s thesis. The Jury appreciated the substantive quality, creativeness and innovativeness of her work.
Our students lead the way in sport climbing
Three gold medals, one silver, second place in the general classification of women and third in the general classification of men – these are the achievements of our athletes during the Academic Championships of Warsaw and Mazovia in sport climbing and during the culmination of the championships, the Competition for the Cup of the Rector of the WMU, which took place in the Sports and Rehabilitation Center of the WMU.
