The National Centre of Science received over 4,500 applications for co-financing within the framework of OPUS and PRELUDIUM competitions. After formal and content-related evaluation, 912 projects were qualified for financing. Among them, 13 were prepared by researchers from the Medical University of Warsaw. Support will also be given to two projects in which our university is a consortium member.
SGH-WUM MBA w ochronie zdrowia w „Złotej Piętnastce” studiów MBA w Polsce
The results of the 8th Perspektywy 2021 MBA Ranking have been announced. Among the top 15 MBA studies in Poland was the SGH-WUM MBA program in health care run jointly by the Medical University of warsaw and the Warsaw School of Economics. This is the only such study in Poland, co-organized by the medical university.

The results of the next edition of MINIATURA 5 competition have been announced. The group of scientists whose projects will receive NCN funding includes Michał Ordak, MD, PhD, from the Department of Pharmacodynamics, and Monika Budnicka, MEng, PhD, from the Department of Analytical Chemistry.
dr hab. Jakub Piwowarski
Tannins are not considered to have a health-promoting effect. However, dr hab Jakub Piwowarski from the Environmental Microbiota Lab will test whether they can positively affect the gut in animals. The research will be conducted within the project ‘Revision of current concepts on the influence of tannins on gastrointestinal homeostasis in piglets’. The National Science Centre has allocated over PLN 2 million for the project, awarded in the OPUS LAP competition.

Doctors at the Centre for Treatment of Rare Liver Diseases at the Department of Hepatology and Internal Medicine at the Warsaw Medical University have launched a project to improve treatment outcomes for patients suffering from primary sclerosing cholangitis. This is the first such precisely designed clinical trial on a novel approach to this one of the most enigmatic, intractable and still incurable diseases.

Our team of doctors performed laser fenestration of a stent-graft into the aortic arch in a 71-year-old patient. This procedure is pioneering. It is minimally invasive, does not require the use of extracorporeal circulation, and its use shortens the time of hospitalisation and postoperative rehabilitation.
Profesor Kazimierz Niemczyk z tytułem doctora honoris causa
Our scientist is the head of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at the Medical University of Warsaw. He was honoured by Kyiv’s Oleksandr Bohomolt National Medical University (BNMU) for his active contribution to medical education and the development of science at the Ukrainian university.
Statuetka św. Apolonii dla profesor WUM
Professor Agnieszka Mielczarek, Vice Dean for Education of the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Head of the Department of Conservative Dentistry at the Medical University of Warsaw, received from the Regional Medical Chamber the Statuette of Saint Apollonia - the Patron Saint of Dentists. The awarding of the statuette honors people who have made special contributions to support the dental community. Prof. Agnieszka Mielczarek received the award from Łukasz Jankowski, President of the Regional Medical Chamber, and Dariusz Paluszek, Vice-President of the RMC, during the solemn diploma awarding ceremony of the Faculty of Dental Medicine.

Piotr Kaszczewski, MD, PhD, from the Department of General, Endocrine and Vascular Surgery, UCC MUW, has been awarded the Professor Zdzisław Boroń prize for the best doctoral dissertation in ultrasonography defended between 2016 and 2021. The dissertation, awarded by the Polish Ultrasound Society, concerned the determination of the norms of cerebral blood flow in the population over 65 years of age in Doppler ultrasonography and the assessment of the volume of cerebral blood flow in patients with different degrees of the carotid artery stenosis.

The Minister of Health has appointed the composition of the National Accreditation Council for Schools of Nursing and Midwifery for 2021-2025. The newly appointed members include Dr. Zofia Sienkiewicz from the Department of Nursing Development, Social and Medical Sciences, MUW, and Dr. Edyta Krzych-Fałta from the Department of Basic Nursing, MUW. The Council's primary task is to assess whether a university seeking accreditation for nursing or midwifery studies meets the educational standards defined in the regulations. On this basis, the Minister of Health makes a decision on accreditation.
